Dr Masud Haque

2016.01.31 Mackay Family Medical Practice (88)Dr Haque graduated in 1989, with specialist training in obstetrics and gynecology as well as internal and preventative medicine.

He joined Mackay Family Medical Practice in 2002 and is a well-known medical professional in Mackay.

Dr Haque’s special interests are in family medicine, diabetes management, the detection and treatment of skin cancer, and minor surgery.

With extensive training and experience, he has a high level of skill in surgical procedures.

Dr Gary Singh Saini

2016.01.31 Mackay Family Medical Practice (72)Dr Singh Saini joined Mackay Family Medical Practice in 2007 and is now one of the practices Managing Director’s as well as a full-time GP.

His specialist training was in general practice and he has 16 years of experience as a general practitioner.

He has a special interest in family medicine as well as chronic disease management.

Dr Maria Besa

2016.01.31 Mackay Family Medical Practice (49)Dr Besa was born in the Philippines and completed her medical training at the University of the City of Manila. She spent her initial years training at Philippines General Hospital before moving to Australia in 2008.

With more than 10 years of experience as a GP, Dr Besa has a special interest in women’s health, mental health and chronic disease management.

She joined Mackay Family Medical Practice in 2011 and is the practice’s full-time female GP.

Dr Sajee Rathnayake

2016.01.31 Mackay Family Medical Practice (85)Dr Rathanayake was born in Sri Lanka and worked for six years in a Tertiary Care Hospital there. He speaks Sinhalese.

Although the newest member of the Mackay Family Medical Practice team, he has been living in Mackay for six years where he previously worked at Mackay Base Hospital in the emergency, orthopedics and medical wards.

Dr Rathnayake is registered in the Australian Medical Board and is a Fellowship candidate of the Royal Australian College of GP’s.

He is happy to welcome new patients to the practice and has special interest in the areas of paediatrics, emergency care, chronic disease management, men’s health and contraception options.

Dr Ashwin Hansrajh

2016.01.31 Mackay Family Medical Practice (94)Dr Hansrajh is Mackay Family Medical Practice’s longest-serving GP, having been with the practice since 2001. He has more than 36 years of experience as a general practitioner.

He completed his medical training at Grant Medical College in South Africa and has a wealth of experience across a broad section of health and medical conditions.

Dr Hansrajh works part-time at Mackay Family Medical Practice, available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  Dr Aye Aye Mar

Dr Mar and her husband Dr Victor Tun (who also works at Mackay Family Medical)  have lived in Mackay for 4 years

Dr Mar has 20 years of experience as a general practitioner and her special interests are endocrinology, rheumatology and geriatric medicine.

He has 22 years of experience as a general practitioner and a  special interest in skin cancer treatment and skin surgery, emergency and geriatric medicine


Our nursing team are a valued and integral part of the service we provide at Mackay Family Medical Practice. They assist our doctors and patients with preventative healthcare and advice, administer injections and immunisations as well as provide dressings and care for wounds.

Our nurses continually up-skill with ongoing education on the latest advancements in patient care.

Our friendly receptionists are often the first point of contact for our patients and assist in making trips to the doctor as comfortable and efficient as possible.

Our receptionists can assist in making appointments, checking patients in and out and can direct patients to a nurse or doctor depending on their medical needs.

Our reception staff assist doctors with administration, confirm next-day appointments and call patients to advise when test results are available. Our receptionists can’t discuss test results with patients over the phone, a new appointment must be made with a GP.

As the heart of our practice, our reception team are hard-working and multi-talented with a depth of medical knowledge. Their warm smiles can brighten the day, when patients may not be feeling so well.

How you can assist our receptionists

Please check-in and check-out with our receptionists when visiting the practice.

Please bring your Medicare or Concession cards with you for each appointment.

Please advise our receptionists if any of your personal contact information has changed.

If you are a new patient, or know that there will be paperwork to fill our prior to your appointment, please arrive early to ensure this is completed prior to your appointment time.

If you can’t keep you appointment time, please phone our reception to let them know so we can assist others who may need that appointment.


Michelle Prior is Mackay Family Medical’s Practice Manager. While doctors are the qualified experts in practising medicine, Michelle is the expert in managing the medical practice. She started with the business in 2002 as a receptionist, and spent time in other medical practices while raising her family. She returned to Mackay Family Medical Practice in 2010 and says it felt just like coming home.

She became practice manager in 2011 and enjoys working with the wonderful team of doctors, nurses, Allied Health professionals and receptionists.

Michelle has three adult children, her daughter lives in Brisbane and also works in medical administration while her two sons live locally in Mackay.

She loves the natural beauty of the Mackay region and spends her time keeping fit and healthy or reading a good book.
